How often is audiometric testing required under the new WA Regs?

From 31 March 2024, the WHS Regulations impose a duty on PCBUs to conduct audiometric testing (of a specific type) in relation to workers who are frequently required to use personal protective equipment to protect them from the risk of hearing loss associated with noise that exceeds the exposure standard. The new WA Regulations (reg 58) state the following:

WHS Act 2020 and Regulations place a duty on the person running a business to provide audiometric testing for workers who use personal hearing protection:

(a) within 3 months of the worker commencing the work; and

(b) in any event, at least every 2 years

Workplace hearing tests

Each audiometric test takes only 10 minutes per person. We tailor our testing to cover all shifts and multiple sites, as required. Onsite hearing testing is more cost effective and less disruptive to employee time off the job.

Ear plug fit testing can be included to improve compliance and correct use of PPE.

FIFO audiometric testing and health surveillance

As well as from our mobile testing facilities, Work Health Professionals also has years of experience in providing FIFO onsite audiometric testing and health surveillance services for remote locations and mine sites in WA.

Noise Surveys

Our accredited Noise Officer’s can also conduct a WorkSafe Noise Survey to help you identify workers who require audiometric tests, the personal hearing protection they should be using and the noise induced hearing loss (NIHL) hazards in their environment that require risk management.
