Can your mobile facility come to us?
Absolutely! Our mobile facility is equipped with a WorkCover accredited hearing test booth. The truck is a spacious, air-conditioned, custom fitted 3 tonne truck, so it can access most sites. WHP specialise in providing hearing testing services onsite, and can tailor projects to work in with different shifts, multiple sites and over negotiated time frames.
We also have a caravan with a WorkCover accredited hearing test booth that we can leave onsite for big projects.
We can send an individual technician in our mobile facility, or a medical team depending on your health surveillance needs. You can utilise one of our mobile facilities, with accredited hearing test booth, or one of our Noise Officers, can calibrate a quiet room/s to WorkCover standards and conduct onsite audiometric testing at a site or venue most convenient to your workers.
This service is popular on a fly-in fly-out basis for the remote and regionally based organisations we work with. We are cheaper than most medical clinics and minimise production downtime while providing a professional and effective service on your own site.
Does WHP offer ear plug fit testing?
Yes we do. The importance of ear plug fit testing as a critical element of 1:1 employee training cannot be overstated. See more on our onsite ear plug fit testing service.
Can WHP provide full audiological assessments?
Yes. We can provide WorkCover full audiological assessments from many Perth and WA regional locations. Upon request we may also be able to provide full audiological assessment services onsite anywhere in the state from our fully accredited mobile facility.
Do we have to provide hearing tests for our workers?
If your work environment is a 'prescribed noisy workplace', then yes. If you have contractors on your work sites for extended periods, you also have some responsibility to ensure that they have also had hearing tests. Please call WHP head office, or WorkCover, if you have questions in this area.
What is a Prescribed Noisy workplace?
WorkCover WA describes a ‘Prescribed’ noisy workplace as one that has a work environment with noise >LAeq90dB.
Which regional areas does your mobile facility go to...?
Upon request, we can go anywhere accessible by road. We also conduct annual or bi-annual road-trips around Western Australia including the Pilbara, Gascoyne, MidWest, South West, Great Southern and Wheat Belt regions.
How can we get our workers to wear their safety equipment?
Many of our clients have this problem. Often there is no easy solution. Awareness training with an element of, without putting too blunt an edge on it, scare tactics are usually the most successful.
Importantly, keeping a record of the measures you, the employer, have taken to provide for the well being of your employees, and therefore attain 'duty of care' compliance, is another safety net you should install.
By doing this you gain some litigation protection from the things that may happen to employees who refuse to practice safe work practices.
Strains and sprains are our biggest cause of lost time. How can WHP help to limit our risk?
There are a number of strategies we can implement, including:
- Ergonomic assessment of workstations and worksites and an audit of the biomechanical demands of specific job criteria.
- Workplace setup adjustments & recommendations.
- Employee training
- Self evaluation and Behaviour modification
- Techniques training.
- Fitness for work.
We have hazardous substances onsite. What are our Health Surveillance requirements?
Firstly WorkSafe expects you to 'quantify' the hazard (substance, chemical, noise) and the exposure employees have to the hazard, under your 'Duty of Care' responsibilities. Then you are expected to use the "Hierarchy of Controls" to manage the hazard.
Next, if your employees still have exposure to the hazard, WorkSafe may expect you to monitor for any biological effects (ie: Health Surveillance or health monitoring).
WHP can help with any or all of these responsibilities. Our very pragmatic time and cost conscious Occupational Physicians will help you to identify the strategy that is right for you.
